ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. The need to express myself is a big part of my life, and the visual arts is where I am most at home saying what I feel I must say about who I am and why I am.

I work with oils, acrylics, and oil sticks on canvas, and I work quickly with bold strokes and layers. I paint without planning my actions and that is where I find my personal rewards. I have often described to others the feeling of electricity flowing down my arm to my hand, to the brush and onto the canvas, sometimes without even being aware of what is happening.

The subject matter of my work is what is dear to me and ranges from the personal to social and political thoughts that I hold close.”
